Divergent Movie Review

On March 21st, the movie Divergent hit theaters. This movie was based on the first book of a popular book series by Veronica Roth. People were very excited about this movie, and there was a lot of enthusiasm and anticipation to see if it would live up to the greatness of the book. I am pleased to say that it met the standard.

One of the reasons that Divergent was a great movie was because of the interesting plot, and the universe it takes place in. Divergent is about a world that is separated into five “factions” based on a certain characteristic (dauntless, erudite, amity, candor, and abnegation). Once you reach a certain age, you must decide which faction you want to live in, which in some cases means leaving your family behind. Along with that, the government is seeking out “divergents”, who threaten the system of separating people based on one category. The main character, Tris, happens to be divergent, and has to try to blend in in her new faction (dauntless). Towards the end, a war is started to try to take over the government and kill every divergent they can find.

The main character, Tris, was another contributing factor towards why this movie was so great. Tris was a very relatable character, and viewers can easily understand what she’s going through. Throughout the movie, you get to watch her grow stronger and discover who she truly is. The movie also had a love story between Tris and another dauntless member, named Four, which you couldn’t help but root for.

Overall, Divergent was a great movie that lived up to my expectations after reading the book. The interesting universe, plotline, main character, and love story made it interesting to watch and held my attention throughout the whole movie. If you haven’t already, you should definitely go see Divergent!
